Book: Fundamentals of
Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems, by Nagle,
Saff, and Snider, 7th Edition, Addison-Wesley. Available in
digital form through Moodle & the library.
Prerequisite: MA
242 or (MA 132 and MA 231).
Suggested
review materials:
- Differentiation
- Chain rule, derivative of composite functions, partial
derivatives
- Total differentiation
- Integration
- Integration by parts
- Integration of combination of trig functions, polynomials,
exponential and log functions and their products.
- Complex number system
- Polynomials and roots, trigonometric identities,
differentiation and integration
- Linear algebra: matrices, vectors, eigenvalues and
eigen-vectors.
Grading:
- Homework: 20% including some class practice.
Homework will be done using WebWork which
is accessible from Moodle.
- Two tests: 50 %
- Final Exam: 30 %
- Up to 3% extra credits for group works (3-4 in a
group), and active class participation
- Class format: in-person.
Excessive absences (>=5) will lead to one grade
level downgrade.
